I just got a new tattoo and have had conflicting advise as to how much and how long I should use A&D ointment?

Some people tell me that I shouldn't use it because the ink will wash out and some tell me that if I don't it will become infected. Any thoughts?I just got a new tattoo and have had conflicting advise as to how much and how long I should use A%26amp;D ointment?
A and D doesn't let your tattoo breathe very well. It's fine to use to protect the tattoo during it's first 24 hours of healing, but after that you need to be keeping it clean by washing with gentle soap and cool water; then you can just apply a watered down Lubriderm, preferably unscented. Other than that, let it heal, and don't ';cover'; it with anything.

So A %26amp; D ointment for 24 hours( I personally don't use it at all), then start washing it at least 4-5 times a day(cool water and hand soap), and apply a watered down lotion. I say to water it down because applying a thick lotion to the fresh tattoo is a pain to spread around, and it will keep it from breathing, which is what it needs to do to heal.

I have used it on all of my tats, I have a full sleeve plus a few various others and have always used A%26amp;D Ointment. I use it for the first week then I switch to a lotion that is unscented for another 2 weeks or so. You should only use as thin a layer as possible, as too much will not allow your tat to breath and could possibly have some negative effects to your tat.
I used one of those creams for cuts and scrapes on my last tat and have not had any problems. You want to use it for as long as it normally takes for a cut or scrape on you to heal, usually a week or so.
I ALWAYS USE IT ON ALL MY TATTOOS AND MINE HAVE NEVER FADED OR GOTTEN INFECTED

USE A%26amp;D FOR THE FIRST COUPLE DAYS WHILE ITS STILL FRESH THEN SWITCH TO LUBRIDERM
