Why would having a communist advise a president be a reason to resign?

Like Van Jones he could have been the greatest green job adviser ever so why did he have to resign for being a communist. Why would having a communist advise a president be a reason to resign?
I don't think they cared that he was a communist, I think it was his having signed a petition intimating the Bush administration had conspired to cause 9/11.

I believe the White House found that embarrassing.

It was only after copies of that petition surfaced that he left.

However it appeared his arrest during a Rodney King demonstration/riot was not as 'wrong place at wrong time' as initially portrayed, as well. I've read that instead of being mistaken identity, he was in jail for months. Why would having a communist advise a president be a reason to resign?
Van Jones is not a communist and he has disavowed any connection to communism. Van Jones has made many statements that confirm his capitalistic beliefs. Had you acknowledged that, I'd have a lot more respect for you.

';We are not promoting welfare. We are promoting work. ... We are not expanding entitlements. We are expanding enterprise and investment. ... We are not trying to redistribute existing wealth. We are trying to reinvent an existing sector, so that we can create NEW wealth - by unleashing innovation and entrepreneurship. This should be common ground.'; ~ Van Jones

Does that sound communist to you?
Blame Obama. If he had the courage of his convictions, he would have supported Van Jones. Instead, he threw him under the bus rather than admit his support. It's apparent that Obama is much, much farther to the Left than he has portrayed himself. But since he won't admit that, it's easier to ditch people like Jones when it becomes uncomfortable to him, and then blame Fox News.
He was attacked by the media, and like Sarah Palin, he decided it would be better for our country if he resigned rather than deal with the constant attacks.
I am more worried about the radical free marketeers and their plans for the future. If they actually have any.
