Help! Can anyone advise of any sites that offer free internet virus protection?

I currently have AVG 7,5 but I' m getting messages from them saying it will expire tomorrow. They want me to upgrade to version 8.0 which I will have to pay for. I'm not computer savvy so please give me very simple instructions on how to go about it .

I'd suggest getting avast! from avast.com . I've used it for a while on 2 computers in my house, with no problems at all.





first uninstall AVG (control panel -%26gt; add/remove programs)


then, download the installer for avast from the website.

As someone who used to love AVG 7.5, I quit using AVG completely after seeing what version 8.0 was like. It's bloated and noticeably slowed my computer. In addition, I understand with AVG Free v8.0, the auto-update and email scan functions only work for the first thirty days.





Given the reduced performance and functionality of of AVG v8.0, I switched to Avast! anti-virus. It reminds me of what AVG 7.5 used to be like and I strongly recommend it. You can find Avast! from CNet at the link, below.

Viruses crop up new every week which means someone has to update the list and program in the blockage. Someone has to do it and get paid or you can do it for free. Get the idea? Spybot just does spybots, they aren't viruses. FYI, most viruses are from China. Arfenand has a good point, since no one is getting paid for ';free'; antivirus, what do you think you might be getting along with the program?.... A virus? A spybot? A keylogger? How will you know? Youre trusty antivirus? Quit being cheap, $40 a year is worth it to me, I just got Norton 3 months ago and it's the first time my computer has been this stable. Slow as hell, but stable.
Upgrade your AVG version to version 8





It is still free and now comes with the spyware at no cost this time.





There is also another good antivirus for free called Avira and, besides antivirus protection, I would recommend an IP hider software so you can prevent spammers and hackers attacks.

many others contain a virus but silly people out there still think they're safe well i am afraid your not safe spy bot for instance contains a great virus that lets them gain access to your computer at any time without you knowing anything about it suckers...

If you want something new, go with Avast. I'm giving KinkyBugga the thumbs up for that.
There is a free version of AVG 8 available. AVG haven't made this common knowledge because they don't want people to choose it and want people to pay for it. I downloaded the free version 8 onto a friends machine the other day.

I was on A.V.G for ages but the junk started to get through eventually (what d'you expect its the school holidays again), I've downloaded Avast with Comodo firewall and so far nothings got through but as the saying goes.....nothing lasts for ever, Good Luck.
